This role is responsible for team management, development, and holds the overall accountability for a team within Production Planning at Tesla's Gigafactory Nevada location. The team will work closely with Production Planning, Production Management, Demand Planning, Supply Chain Planning and New Product Introduction to ensure Tesla’s production plans are effectively optimized and executed. The candidate will be responsible for helping communicate and monitor the production schedules and assist managing all plan changes across the value stream for Drive Unit, Battery Pack and Module products. The candidate will also be responsible for structuring and performing analysis to support the roadmap for production capacity changes on their assigned production lines. - Support manufacturing by creating production schedules that reconcile production capacity with demand for fabricated components, following the factory’s master schedule
- Work with manufacturing & support teams to establish & improve processes (e.g. production batch sizes, material transfer processes & controls) for just-in-time or line-side Kanban delivery
- Respond to unanticipated changes—e.g. production shortfall vs. schedule or material shortages: provide information, impact assessment, and options to downstream shops, revise production shifts and or mix as needed
- Generate and publish production performance metrics and forecasts showing risk to supply of fabricated components vs. demand
- Communicating plans, plan revisions, and production vs. plan to all Manufacturing, support, and business stakeholders
- Collaborate with Supply chain and Engineering to coordinate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to plan for material and product end of life and minimize obsolescence
- Effectively manage the Production Planning team you are appointed to lead. Set each team member of the group up for success, provide guidance, coaching, and criticism (both positive/negative) as required to achieve group goals
- Monitoring the flow of the product through the multiple production shops in the factory to ensure that production output is being optimized
- Forecast and prevent production issues, resolve issues impacting shop productivity in collaboration with all required groups
- Support issue resolution through root cause analysis, implementing permanent counter measures and an environment of continuous learning
- Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering/Operations Research, Supply Chain Management or another quantitative field preferred or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated high volume production planning experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally with 1 + years’ experience structuring and building analytical models
- Ability to work well under pressure, manage competing demands and meet tight deadlines with strong follow through
- Working knowledge of SQL database management and Tableau data visualization.
- Proven skills in MS Excel
- Skilled in managing projects and cross-functional teams with a broad range of engineering and technical disciplines
- Broad experience with manufacturing and planning systems and methodologies, ability to spot process improvement opportunities and influence others to make change
- Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
- Good organizational and project management skills. (role requires juggling long-term projects, daily tasks, and urgent questions)
